HVAC SEO: how to rank your HVAC company on Google

HVAC SEO is not complicated, it is just unglamorous. Google is trying to answer one question: which nearby company is most likely to fix this furnace well. Everything below is about making that answer obvious.

There are two sets of results, and they are ranked differently

When someone searches furnace repair Mississauga they see a map with three businesses, then a list of blue links. Those two blocks use different signals, so you have to work on both.

The map pack

Driven by your Google Business Profile: distance to the searcher, correct categories, review count and rating, photos, and how complete and active the profile is.

Organic results

Driven by your website: a dedicated page for each service and each city, useful content, page speed, internal links and links from other sites.

Fix the Google Business Profile first

This is the fastest win in HVAC SEO because most competitors half finish it and never touch it again.

  • Set the primary category to HVAC contractor and add secondary categories that match what you actually do.
  • List every service you offer as a service item, using the words customers use.
  • Set your service area to the cities you truly serve, not all of Ontario.
  • Upload real photos of your trucks, crew and finished installs, not stock images.
  • Keep hours accurate, including holidays, so you do not lose calls.
  • Post updates monthly. It is a small signal, but it is free.

Build one page per service, and one page per city

A single services page listing everything you do will not rank for anything specific. Google ranks pages, not companies.

PageTarget searchWhat it must contain
Furnace repairfurnace repair near mePricing guidance, symptoms, response time, booking form
AC installationac installation costBrands, sizing, warranty, financing, real photos
Heat pumpsheat pump installation ontarioRebate details, cold climate performance, examples
City pagehvac company mississaugaLocal proof, neighbourhoods served, local reviews

Do not copy a city page ten times and swap the city name. Google treats near duplicate pages as thin content and quietly ignores them.

Reviews are an SEO input, not just social proof

Review count and recency both influence map pack ranking. Ten reviews from the last three months beat sixty reviews from four years ago.

  • Ask on the same day the job is finished, while the relief is fresh.
  • Send a direct link by text. Every extra step cuts your response rate.
  • Reply to all of them, including the negative ones, in plain language.
  • Never buy reviews. Removals and suspensions cost far more than they gain.

The technical basics that still matter

  • Load fast on a phone. Most HVAC searches are mobile and often on cellular data.
  • One clear H1 per page that matches what the page is about.
  • A title and description written for humans, with the service and the city in it.
  • LocalBusiness schema with your address, phone and hours.
  • Consistent name, address and phone across your site, your profile and directories.
  • Internal links from your homepage to every service and city page.

FAQ

How long does HVAC SEO take?

Profile and review work can move map pack rankings within weeks. Organic service and city pages usually take three to six months to settle, and competitive city terms in Toronto can take longer.

Do I need a blog to rank an HVAC site?

Not to rank for service terms. Service pages and city pages do that work. Blog content helps you capture earlier questions like how long a furnace should last, which builds trust before someone needs you.

How many city pages should I build?

One for each city you genuinely serve and want jobs in. Each needs real, specific content. Five strong city pages will outperform thirty thin ones.
